DC Minner Passes

Hi everyone, I just recieved a phone call from M. Teagues " Tiki" to inform me that D.C Minner passed away last night. D.C is a 3 time Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame inductee and was big @ Music in the Schools programs. I was in DC's band for many years and had the pleasure of calling him my friend. I've never seen nor felt such wisdom in any one man other than DC. He will be missed but not forgotten. John Seymour

DC was a club owner, DC Minner's Down Home Blues Club in Rentiesville, OK (pop. 66) in the rural township of Rentiesville OK, and founder of the annual Dusk 'til Dawn Blues Festival.

Oklahoma Blues Festival promoter D.C. Minner has died at the age of 73.

Minner, a blues guitarist, and his wife Selby have hosted the Dusk  til Dawn Blues Festival in his hometown of Rentiesville each Labor Day weekend for 17 years.

He was born in January 1935 in Rentiesville and went on to play bass guitar behind such blues legends and rock n roll pioneers as Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry and Freddy King. He met Selby, a bass guitarist, while living in California in the late 1960s.

Minner was inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame in 2004 and received a Governor s Arts Award from Gov. Brad Henry in 2005.

He had been sick the last couple of years, and passed Tuesday night while at home with his wife, Selby. Contingency plans allowing the Dusk 'til Dawn Blues Festival to continue are in place, so once again the festival will take place over Labor Day weekend.

LEGENDARY BLUES GUITARIST CLEVELAND FATS SUFFERS HEART ATTACK.
WEST COAST TOUR AND 2008 BOOKING CALENDAR CANCELLED.

Westend Management Released the Following MySpace Blog Today:

Due to complications stemming from a heart attack Fats suffered in late April, he will unfortunately be unable to travel in May as we had announced.

Fats has long been looking forward to performing in California and was scheduled to start the festivities at Sacramento's Torch Club on April 20th. The Torch Club was the first to book Fats and has been one of the original venues to support him coming to the West when this project started back in 2007. So, at the end of April, it was estimated that Fats would be able to travel in May, and the tour was moved forward, making his originally scheduled performance at the House of Blues the new kick-off date for this year's Real Deal Blues Tour.

Due to medical complications, however, Cleveland will require an extended period of time for proper recovery from this incident. He is resting at home in Ohio.
I would like to extend my appreciation to: the crew at XM Radio, Thom Myers, Mick Martin, Brian Spenser, Marc Jacobsen, JJ and the guys at KPOO, all of the musicians in Las Vegas and the staff at HOB; all of the California and out of state contacts that booked us this time out; and especially and most importantly-all the local musicians who stepped in to be a part of the bookings: Warren Davis, Joe Lev, Pinkie Varner, Pete Phillis, Skip Murphy, "Wolf", Stan Erhart and his band and everyone! Your support and understanding has been priceless.

__________________________________________________

TODAY'S UPDATE:

I spoke with him this afternoon and he is completely focused on his health and his recovery. For now, Blues has to take a back seat. The new album is on hold and we are not taking any new bookings for this year. Anyone who knows Fats or is familiar with his reputation as one of the hardest-driving Bluesmen in the industry, knows that if Blues is taking a back seat, then this is quite a serious situation.

We will keep you all posted with updates on Fats' myspace page blog. There is a paypal button where you can purchase his latest CD and we will soon be featuring a wider selection of his work. Proceeds from CD sales are being set aside to offset his massive medical bills.

Comments and well wishes can be left for him on his page: www.myspace.com/clevelandfats2008

You may contact me directly with any questions.

Respectfully,

Mary Franklin

Alice Stuart & The Formerlys Blues/Americana/Folk-rock

Saturday, May 31, 8:00 p.m.
$19 adv / $21 day of show

Her favorite description of her voice is a cross between Joe Walsh and Brenda Lee. Currently featured in "Flatpicking Magazine," Alice Stuart has blazed a trail for women in blues and rock for decades, as one of the only females in the country to write her own music, front a male band, and play lead guitar on national and international circuits during the 1970s.

Alice spent the mid 1960's and 70's, one of the most creative musical periods of the century, making music with some of the greatest artistsof that time. She toured the US and Europe with her band Snake and as tour support for Van Morrison. The list of artists she playedthat period of time is an awesome one. They include Michael Bloomfield, Jerry Garcia, John Prine, Albert King, Asleep at the Wheel, Richard Greene, Elvin Bishop, Sonny Terry, Tower of Power & Commander Cody.

She won rave reviews from Billboard, Guitar Player, and Rolling Stone magazines for her playing and recording.

Appearing with her band, The Formerlys, this will be a great show of blues, Americana, and folk-rock.

John Nemeth & his band Traditional rhythm and blues sensation!

FRIDAY June 13, 8:00 p.m.
$18 adv / $21 day of show

John N meth is a traditional Blues singer whose style resembles that of B.B. King, Ray Charles and Junior Parker. His decade long career has found him opening for Robert Cray, Keb Mo', and Earl Thomas. Performing major music festivals around the United States, Europe, Canada and Asia has brought him critical acclaim. Nemeth was a featured artist with Anson Funderburgh and the Rockets in 2005, 2006 as well as a featured artist with The Junior Watson Band in 2002. The Cascade Blues Association selected N meth as a crowd favorite at the Portland Waterfront Blues Festival in 2002, and the Washington Blues Society called him the show stealer at the Winthrop Rhythm and Blues Festival in 2003. He is considered a topnotch harmonica player. Greg Johnson of Blues Notes writes, "John N meth possesses rich harmonica tone that easily brings to mind Sonny Boy Williamson and Little Walter."

John recently signed a multi-record recording agreement with Blind Pig Records. He is excited to be the newest member of the Blind Pig family. Label head Jerry Del Giudice expressed "how impressed I was with John's performance the one time I got the chance to see him. In our nearly 30 years in the business we have never before offered a new artist a recording contract on the strength of one performance.

Come and hear what all the excitement is about!

All Ages Welcome
Laurie Morvan Band
Laurie Morvan is a stunning guitarist who has seen the doors of recognition recently open up to her exhilarating electric blues style. However, this occurrence was far from effortless. Laurie found out the hard way that it often takes time for a female blues guitarist to be taken seriously. Ultimately, unbiased listeners have come to recognize Laurie's fluid licks, incredible tone and the emotion she exerts in her songs as evidence of her seriousness.
Ms. Morvan's knowledge of music began with the usual teen interest in pop and rock, but she later discovered the music of the Allman Brothers and especially Stevie Ray Vaughan (among others).
Realizing that the music she most enjoyed was a derivative of traditional blues, she dug deeper and discovered Robert Johnson, Etta James, Freddie King and more. Determined to make music her true calling in life, she used her University of Illinois degree in electrical engineering as a way out of her hometown of Plainfield, Illinois. Laurie eventually relocated to Los Angeles, where following a brief stint in aerospace engineering, she began playing music fulltime.
The Laurie Morvan Band recently were selected as a "Finalist" representing the Santa Clarita Blues Society at the 2008 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee. Her self-produced CD -- Cures What Ails Ya -- was the 2nd top seller out of 160 performing bands giving a clear indication of who the audience thought gave the top performance. Get ready for the blues fireworks of the Laurie Morvan Band!

5/2/08 - Laurie Morvan Band "Blues Artist on the Rise" overall Winner - The Blues Festival Guide chose the LMB out of 232 bands from all over the world!
Lara Price Band
The Lara Price Band, hailing from San Jose, has wowed the Sacramento area ever since their first appearances here a few years ago. They just keep getting better with their no-holds- barred brand of rockin' blues. Though primarily a club band, Lara and company have made significant inroads into the heart of the concert scene which has included gigs throughout the U.S. and China. As Lara likes to say, "I didn't find the blues, the blues found me." Recently, The Lara Price Band released their 4th CD -- I Got News -- which has received critical acclaim from the Blues community. Not to be missed is band guitarist, Ms. Laura Chavez who consistently brings down the house with her incredible guitar licks.
The Lara Price Band proudly represented the Sacramento Blues Society at the 2007 International Blues Challenge in Memphis. The band created quite a stir at B.B. Kings Club and the Rum Boogie Cafe on Beale Street which gleaned a handful of festival appearances around the country. We are very pleased to have the Lara Price Band once again grace the stage for the Sacramento Blues Society!
Get ready for a very special "Blues Event" featuring some of the best "Red Hot Blues Women on the West Coast"!

Chris Hillman:
He is a folkie who wound up in the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame. He is a journeyman sideman who wound up singing lead on 10 top-10 country smash hits. He is a bluegrass mandolin picker who detoured to three Gold Records in rock bands. He is a self-taught composer who wound up cowriting some of the cornerstone songs of the country-rock repertoire. In the beginning, he was just another curly-headed, guitar-playing kid from Southern California. But his life in music has taken him through several of the major movements that have defined modern American pop -- folk-rock, hippie psychedelia, country-rock, jazz fusion, contemporary country and modern bluegrass. His name is Chris Hillman. During his three decades as a music maker, his collaborators have included Emmylou Harris, Stephen Stills, Vern Gosdin, David Crosby, Gram Parsons, Dan Fogelberg, J.D. Souther, Bob Dylan, and Roger McGuinn. He has been a member of The Byrds, The Flying Burrito Brothers and The Desert Rose Band. He is a living history of popular music. But since he is nowhere near finished making memories, that's a book he's not ready to write.

Herb Pedersen:
Herb began his career in Berkeley, California in the early 60's playing 5 string banjo and acoustic guitar with people like David Grisman, Butch Waller, David Nelson, and Jerry Garcia. For the last thirty years, Herb has lived in southern California, and participated in select music groups, either in recording, or traveling on the road doing concerts. His recording discography is like a who's who of the singer/songwriter scene, so prevalent in the 70s and 80s. His own groups, like The Desert Rose Band, and The Laurel Canyon Ramblers, show why Herb is so respected in the industry. With his lifelong pal, Chris Hillman, Herb is in the process of continuing the type of music they both grew up playing and singing. There is a work in progress most of the time and that's the way Herb likes it.

Television and motion picture sound tracks are something Herb has been involved in since the early 70s. Shows like The Rockford Files, Smokey and The Bandit, the Maverick movie with Mel Gibson, Hunter, The Simpsons, have used Herb either on 5 string banjo, or vocals for many years. Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris, Vince Gill, Johnny Rivers, Dan Fogelberg, James Taylor, Gordon Lightfoot, Jennifer Warnes, John Prine and Jesse Winchester have used Herb's talents in the past, and in all probability will continue to do so ...From Carnegie Hall to the Ryman auditorium, Herb's been on the scene enjoying every minute of it.

Richard March: Bay Area-born and now Sacramento-based, Richard March is truly the guiding light of Americana music in this city. He is a 2007 Sammie and Sacramento Magazine winner and tours the West Coast. His 2007 album, LEVEE ROAD, continues to receive airplay nationally.

Tom Rush

"One of my heroes and also one of my main influences." ~James Taylor
Tickets: $20
"... his voice is outstandingly versatile; his guitar playing is sheer genius; his sense of humor side splitting ..." Trina E. Kingsbury MARTHA'S VINEYARD TIMES. Tom Rush is a gifted musician and performer, whose shows offer a musical celebration...a journey into the tradition and spectrum of what music has been, can be, and will become. His distinctive guitar style, wry humor and warm, expressive voice have made him both a legend and a lure to audiences around the world. His shows are filled with the rib-aching laughter of terrific story-telling, the sweet melancholy of ballads and the passion of gritty blues.
For the uninitiated, Rush helped shape the folk revival of the 1960s and its renaissance in the '80s and '90s. His early recordings introduced the world to the work of Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne and James Taylor. According to Rolling Stone, Rush's album The Circle Game, released in 1968, ushered in the singer/songwriter era. "The music of Tom Rush has provided a soundtrack to my life. I'm very proud to present this founding father of American folk music." Bob Littell. Big Room Guy.
