Blues Gigs Around Sacramento by Burwell Briggs

Blues Schedule for the Week of August 30th

I am exhausted from doing manual labor this weekend for my son. He is getting his backyard ready for my grandson s birthday party. Hauling and spreading decomposed granite and cleaning and moving decorative rock can do a number on the body, but it s good to know that even at my age I can still put in a day s (or two) work. Next weekend may be the Labor Day weekend but I did my labor last weekend so I am going to relax next weekend and go hear some live music. Luckily there is an excellent selection of great music this week from which to choose.

Friday the great Jimmy Thackery appears at the Palms Playhouse and the Grammy nominated zydeco artist Lisa Haley performs at the Center for the Arts in Grass Valley. Also appearing around town on Friday is Kaye Bohler at the Torch Club and Tess Honn and Hip Trash who are performing at the Cozmic Caf  in Placerville.

On Saturday the NAACP presents their Annual Rhythm & Blues Festival. The festival will showcase musical groups from the gospel, R&B and blues genres. Among the many performers will be Lenny Williams, Marshal Wilkerson, and Johnny "Guitar" Knox and Dave Croall. Also on Saturday afternoon Mick Martin and the Blues Rockers will provide the music for Kirkwood ski area s Thin Air Chili Cookoff and Brad Wilson plays in the early evening at the Sierra Ridge Winery in Sutter Creek. Closer to home Lara Price has a CD release party Saturday night at the Torch Club.

Sunday afternoon the dynamic Lydia Pense and Cold Blood take the stage at the Powerhouse Pub.

Once again there is a lot of great music for our enjoyment, so please support the venues that continue to bring us live music. Enjoy the music everyone.

If you know of someone who enjoys blues music, and would appreciate this listing of gigs, please feel free to forward it on. The addresses used to send out the Blues Gigs Schedule are never used for non-blues related material, will never be sold, and are masked so that they will remain private.

Disclaimer:

This list in no way represents all of the blues gigs occurring in and around Sacramento. They are merely the shows that I would go to if I were able to clone myself. They are groups or individuals that I personally know put on a good show, or that I have heard good things about and want to see in the near future.
