Blues Schedule for the Week of March 15th
I am exhausted! It happened again!
Someone sneaked in Sunday morning and stole an hour of my sleep! I hate daylight saving time.
I was born under standard time, my body remains in standard time, and I will die under standard
time. Don t get me wrong, it is not Pacific Standard Time that I am stuck in. I can fly across
the country with no problem, and it didn t even bother me when I went to Scotland, but this
shifting time by one hour just totally messes up my rhythms. And it doesn t get any better
until we fall back in October. I am just stuck in standard time. You know, there
could be a song in that; I m Stuck in Standard Time. Anybody want to take a crack
at it? Wednesday brings the awful green beer that makes its appearance every St.
Patrick s Day, although the Blues Society toasted the Irish last Saturday. For those of you
going out to celebrate that night please be careful. I want to live so I don t want any of
you taking aim at me or my car, plus the police will be out in triple force and I don t think
that they will let you read my next e-mail while sitting in jail. Thursday, Constable
Jack s again hosts the lovely Leah Tysse, with her cohorts the Ted Stancliff Ensemble, for
an early show. Then on Friday the music starts jumping. Shane Dwight will be rocking the Torch
Club while Jeff Watson takes the stage at Constable Jack s and Marshal Wilkerson performs at
the Jazzyblues Caf . About a month ago I told you about discovering the group
Tess Honn and Hip Trash and their blues tinged jazz sound. Well this Friday they are playing
at Lozano s in Stockton, and Kyle Rowland is joining them for this gig. Kyle is preparing for
his coming out party at the Monterey Blues Festival in June and with the unique musicianship
of Tess and the guys this could turn out to be the show of the night. On Saturday
there are three shows with international stars in our area: harmonica hall of fame member Darrell
Mansfield performs at Po Boyz, Frank Hannon of Tesla fame brings his own band to Constable
Jack s, and Pablo Cruise rocks the Powerhouse Pub. Also playing that night at the Torch Club
will be the Mofo Party Band. This is one of those nights that you can t lose no matter where
you go. Sunday afternoon the new group Political Plum is recording a live CD at
Constable Jack s. For those of you who saw Shana Morrison s show a couple of weeks ago, this
is her guitarist s own band. This is a free show and they need people to scream and shout for
the recording. Also playing Sunday afternoon at the Powerhouse Pub are the Delta Wires, 2008
finalists at the Memphis International Blues Challenge. There is a lot of great
music this weekend, so get your sleep and try to recover that lost hour. Enjoy the music. If
you
know of someone who enjoys blues music, and would appreciate
this listing of gigs, please feel
free to forward it on. The addresses used to send out the Blues
Gigs Schedule are never used
for non-blues related material, will never be sold, and are
masked so that they will remain
private. Disclaimer:
This
list in no way represents
all of the blues gigs occurring in and around Sacramento. They
are merely the shows that I
would go to if I were able to clone myself. They are groups
or individuals that I personally
know put on a good show, or that I have heard good things about and want to see in the near
future.
