Blues Schedule for the Week of March 8th
This is going to be a busy week
for music lovers in Sacramento. A very, very busy week. From Thursday through Sunday there
are at least two excellent shows each day/night. So without further ado, here are the highlights. Thursday
night Joe Bonamassa performs at the Crest Theatre. Unfortunately, this show is sold out so
unless you already have your tickets, or you are able to scalp some, you will have to make
other plans. But fortunately there is an equally great show up the hill in Grass Valley where
the legendary harmonica player for Muddy Waters and Howlin Wolf, James Cotton, performs. Also
on Thursday Constable Jack s is having a beer tasting featuring New Belgium brews and the music
of XMR. On Friday the acclaimed guitar slinger Kevin Russell brings his show to
the Torch Club and the Bay Area star Pat Wilder performs at the Jazzyblues Caf in West
Sac. In addition the Blue Room on Friday hosts Two-Tone Steiny and the Cadillacs, with Aaron
King, and Mind X performs at Constable Jack s. Saturday the Sacramento Blues Society
goes Irish with their St. Patty s Blues show. The corned beef and cabbage dinner starts at
6:00 pm, and the musical entertainment kicks off at 7:00 pm. Performing will be the Volker
Strifler Band and the Mind X Trio. This show will end around 10:00 pm which will give you time
to run down to the Torch Club to see Harper or up to Constable Jack s for the rocking blues
of Mick Martin and the Blues Rockers. Also that night Shane Dwight is playing at the Red Hawk
Casino near Placerville. Sunday afternoon the Powerhouse Pub hosts the king of
the slide guitar, Roy Rogers. And that evening I want you to gather what energy you have left
to stumble down to Harlow s to see Trombone Shorty. Shorty s New Orleans music is guaranteed
to reenergize you and get you out on the dance floor. Wow! What a week of musical
entertainment! Speaking of great musical entertainment, here is a heads up for
all you fans of Kyle Rowland. Kyle will be performing in June at the Monterey Blues Festival,
so start making your plans. Kyle had been invited by Kenny Neal to perform with him at Monterey,
but Kenny got booked for Europe and will not be attending. However, the festival contacted
Kyle and invited him to bring his own band down. Our little boy is moving up in the world.
Congratulations Kyle, I know that you will have a slew of your Sacramento fans there to lend
support. It is going to be a very busy week for music lovers, so rest up and conserve
your energy. Enjoy the music everyone. If
you
know of someone who enjoys blues music, and would appreciate
this listing of gigs, please feel
free to forward it on. The addresses used to send out the Blues
Gigs Schedule are never used
for non-blues related material, will never be sold, and are
masked so that they will remain
private. Disclaimer:
This
list in no way represents
all of the blues gigs occurring in and around Sacramento. They
are merely the shows that I
would go to if I were able to clone myself. They are groups
or individuals that I personally
know put on a good show, or that I have heard good things about and want to see in the near
future.
